Hurricane Helene Donation Drive this Wednesday

NCPLA will be gathering supplies this Wednesday to be sent to our neighbors in Western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene. While any donation is appreciated, we are specifically asking our members to contribute the following items that are most requested from residents in the impacted areas this week:

  • Cleaning supplies
    • Clorox
    • Paper Towels
    • Toilet Paper
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Sanitation wipes
  • Clean linens
    • Blankets
    • Sheets
    • Pillow cases
    • Pillows
    • Towels
  • Warm clothing
    • Jackets and coats
    • Sweatshirts
    • Flannels
    • New socks
  • Water
  • Buckets with lids and other large containers for transporting and storing water

With so many residents in shelters and many more residents without the inability to wash clothes, there is an enormous need for clean linens. In many cases flooded residences lost all blankets and bedding. A cool front will move through the mountains this week and the victims are specifically requesting warm blankets and warm clothing to meet this need.

You may drop off your donation on Wednesday, October 9th from 7am-5pm in the visitor parking lot on the corner of Wilmington and Jones Streets (address is 140 E. Jones Street). A designated area with trailers will be set up for your convenience.

WNC lawmakers and lobbyists have volunteered to drive the trailers and donations west after session on Wednesday. If you would like to help volunteer at the drop-off site or to drive the donations west, please call John Metcalf at 828-280-8082 or Whitney Christensen at 919-308-0764.

A very special thank you to John Metcalf, Angie Maier, and Angel Sabnani and all members of the western delegation for spearheading this effort and to Paul Coble and the LSO for approving the use of the parking lot for this purpose.

Thank you all for your support as we help our brothers and sisters in the mountains get back on their feet!
