Director of Government Affairs

The North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) seeks a Director of Government Affairs to manage its
legislative and legal affairs program.

NCAJ is an association of approximately 3,000 lawyers and legal professionals dedicated to protecting
peoples’ rights through advocacy, education and representation of the injured, accused, disabled and
others before courts and administrative bodies.

The primary role of this position will be to advocate on behalf of NCAJ before the North Carolina General Assembly and the Executive Branch. In that capacity, the person employed will manage the legislative program, the lobbying team of staff and contract lobbyists, and the NCAJ political action committee (NCAJ PAC). The position will also be responsible for administering an active Amicus and moot court program in the appellate courts.

A qualified candidate for this position will have legislative experience as well as a familiarity with the legislative process and relevant state agencies.The ability to work as part of a team on strategy and legislative goals as well as build relationships with all levels of an organization is required. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, is essential as this person will need to represent NCAJ before various legislative committees and other external organizations.A self-starter with the ability to take initiative, manage deadlines, and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is also required.

The position requires a law degree and significant experience in government, policy, and political affairs. Reports to the Executive Director and is based in Raleigh, N.C. Salary commensurate with experience.
