Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Government Relations Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, an understanding of the NC General Assembly and state government processes, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders. This role is crucial in advancing our advocacy goals and ensuring our firm’s interests are represented at all levels of government.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocacy and Policy Analysis: Monitor and analyze state legislation and regulatory developments relevant to our clients’ interests. Prepare detailed reports and policy briefs to inform internal stakeholders.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, and other key stakeholders. Represent the organization in meetings, hearings, and public forums.
  • Strategic Communication: Assist in the creation and dissemination of advocacy materials, including position papers, fact sheets, and legislative updates. Support the development of strategic messaging and communication plans.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and coordinate events such as briefings, roundtables, and legislative receptions. Ensure successful execution and follow-up with attendees.
  • Research and Reporting: Conduct research on policy issues and legislative proposals. Compile and analyze data to support advocacy efforts and provide actionable insights.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Navigator team and with clients to align advocacy strategies with organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or a similar role, preferably at the NC General Assembly or in state government. 
  • Strong understanding of government processes, legislative procedures, and policy analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
  •  Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with government officials and other stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with advocacy tools and databases.
