The Government Relations Coordinator will help the government relations practice group lobby for certain clients, as well as monitor, analyze and report on legislative activity. The role will support interactions and interface with public and elected officials and their staff. Excellent independent judgment and organizational skills are required to plan, prioritize, and execute a diversified workload. This position requires strong writing skills. Trust, accuracy and ability to multi task under pressure are important to this position. This position requires an extremely detail oriented self-starter with the ability to exercise the utmost care in handling confidential information.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
- Monitor and report on activity from key legislative committees
- Assist government relations practice in day to day client services
- Assist in lobbying for clients by meeting independently and/or as part of a team with lawmakers and speaking on behalf of clients with regard to policy issues
- Representing our clients’ interests and policy priorities
- Meet with legislative staff and legislators
- Analyzing legislation reports
- Disseminating technical information
- Review and analyze the state budget to identify client priorities
- Conduct policy and political research
- Draft documents such as letters, memos, client alerts, fact sheets, and reports for internal and external communication
- Monitor and disseminate policy news pertaining to client policy agenda items
- Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Experience & Education
- 1 to 3 years professional experience in a government relations/policy-related role
- Possess a detail oriented approach to ensure accuracy and consistency of reporting
- Exhibit strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent public speaking skills
- Excellent professional interpersonal skills; projects professional image
- Ability to work independently, multi task and meet deadlines
- BS or BA required
- Strong knowledge and highly proficient user of MS Word and Excel
